How to delete the post from social platform

RobinReach provides you with complete control over your published content, including the ability to delete posts directly from the connected social media platforms. This guide will walk you through the process of deleting posts that have been published through RobinReach.

UNDERSTANDING POST DELETION IN ROBINREACH

There are two types of post deletion in RobinReach:

  1. Deleting Posts from RobinReach Only
    • This removes the post from your RobinReach dashboard
    • Applies to draft posts or scheduled posts that haven't been published yet
    • Does NOT delete the post from the actual social media platform if already published

  1. Deleting Posts from Social Media Platforms
    • This removes the post from the actual social media platform (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
    • Only available for published posts
    • The post will be permanently deleted from the social platform
    • The post status in RobinReach will be updated to "deleted"

This guide focuses on deleting posts from social media platforms after they have been published.

Due to API limitations from the platform providers, the following platforms do NOT support post deletion through RobinReach:

✗ Instagram - Posts cannot be deleted via API

✗ Instagram Direct - Posts cannot be deleted via API

✗ TikTok - Videos cannot be deleted via API

IMPORTANT: For Instagram, Instagram Direct, and TikTok posts, you must manually delete the content directly on the respective platform's app or website.

HOW TO DELETE A PUBLISHED POST

Step 1: Navigate to Your Posts

  1. Log in to your RobinReach dashboard
  2. Click on "Calendar" from the left sidebar to view all your posts
  3. Alternatively, you can access your posts from the Posts section

Step 2: Find the Published Post

  1. Locate the post you want to delete in the calendar view

  3. The post must have a "Published" status (indicated by a green dot) to see the delete option

Step 3: Delete from Specific Platform

  1. In the post details modal, scroll down to the "Platform Status" section
  2. You'll see a list of all platforms where the post was published

Next to each platform, you'll see one of the following:

    • "View On [Platform]" button - If the post is published and accessible
    • "Delete from [Platform]" button - If the platform supports deletion
    • "Delete not supported for [Platform]" button (disabled/grayed out) - For Instagram, Instagram Direct, and TikTok
  3. Click the red "Delete from [Platform]" button for the platform where you want to remove the post

Step 4: Confirm the Deletion

  1. A confirmation dialog will appear with the message: "Delete Post from [platform]?"
  2. The dialog will warn: "This action cannot be undone."
  3. You have two options:
    • Click "Yes, delete it!" to confirm and proceed with deletion
    • Click "Cancel" to abort the deletion

Step 5: Wait for Confirmation

  1. After confirming, the button will show a loading spinner with the text "Deleting..."
  2. The system will send a deletion request to the social media platform
  3. Once completed, you'll see a success notification: "Post deleted successfully from [platform]."
  4. The page will automatically refresh to show the updated status

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER DELETION

On the Social Media Platform

  • The post is permanently removed from the platform
  • All engagement data (likes, comments, shares) on that post is lost
  • The post will no longer be visible to your followers or the public
  • This action CANNOT be undone

In RobinReach

  • The post status for that specific platform is marked as "deleted"
  • The post remains in your RobinReach dashboard for record-keeping
  • You can still view the post content and creation details in RobinReach
  • If the post was published to multiple platforms, only the selected platform's version is deleted

DELETING MULTI-PLATFORM POSTS

If you published the same post to multiple platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn), you need to delete it separately from each platform:

  1. Open the post details modal
  2. You'll see the post status for each connected platform
  3. Click "Delete from Facebook" - only the Facebook post will be deleted
  4. Click "Delete from Twitter" - only the Twitter post will be deleted
  5. Click "Delete from LinkedIn" - only the LinkedIn post will be deleted

Each deletion is independent, allowing you to remove the post from specific platforms while keeping it on others.

DELETING FROM UNSUPPORTED PLATFORMS

For Instagram, Instagram Direct, and TikTok

Since these platforms don't allow deletion through third-party APIs, you must manually delete posts:

Instagram/Instagram Direct:

  1. Open the Instagram app on your mobile device
  2. Navigate to your profile
  3. Find the post you want to delete
  4. Tap the three dots (•••) in the top right corner of the post
  5. Select "Delete"
  6. Confirm the deletion

TikTok:

  1. Open the TikTok app
  2. Go to your profile
  3. Find the video you want to delete
  4. Tap the three dots (•••) button
  5. Select "Delete"
  6. Confirm the deletion

TROUBLESHOOTING

Deletion Failed Error

If you see "Failed to delete post from [platform]" error:

  • The post may have already been deleted manually from the platform
  • Your account connection may have expired - reconnect your account
  • The platform's API may be temporarily unavailable - try again later
  • The post may have been deleted by platform moderation

Delete Button Not Showing

If you don't see a delete button:

  • Ensure the post has been published (status must be "Published")
  • Check that the post was successfully published to the platform
  • Verify you're viewing a post from a supported platform (not Instagram, Instagram Direct, or TikTok)
  • Confirm you have the necessary permissions for the connected account

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Deletion is Permanent

Once you delete a post from a social media platform through RobinReach, it cannot be recovered. The post, along with all engagement metrics (likes, comments, shares), will be permanently lost from that platform.

Platform-Specific Considerations

  • Facebook: Posts with significant engagement may take a few moments to be completely removed
  • Twitter: Deleted tweets may still appear in search results temporarily due to caching
  • LinkedIn: Deleted posts are removed immediately but may take time to clear from all LinkedIn caches
  • YouTube: Deleted videos are immediately unavailable but may take time to clear from recommendations

Scheduled Posts

If you want to prevent a scheduled post from being published (rather than deleting an already published post):

  1. Go to the post in your calendar
  2. Edit the post
  3. Change the status to "Draft" or delete the entire post from RobinReachThis will prevent publication without affecting any existing content on social platforms.

BEST PRACTICES

Before Deleting

  1. Download or save any important analytics data from the post
  2. Consider editing the post instead of deleting if you want to correct information
  3. Take a screenshot of the post if you need it for records
  4. Check if the post has valuable engagement you want to preserve

After Deleting

  1. Verify the post has been removed from the actual platform
  2. Check your RobinReach dashboard to confirm the status shows "deleted"
  3. If published to multiple platforms, ensure you've deleted from all intended platforms
  4. Update any content calendars or strategies that referenced the deleted post
